ANNAPOLIS MD

I believe we have a very special reunion planned for 2024 in Annapolis, Maryland.

We will be staying at the Double Tree by Hilton at 210 Holiday Court, Annapolis, MD 21401.  Click on the  blue link above to register your room for the reunion:.

Please note-- If you make your hotel reservation on-line, it will only cover the dates for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. If you want to cover up to 3 days before and/or after for the $129 price, you have to call. Mention you are with the Hugh Purvis reunion.

Our rate is $129 per night plus taxes. This does not include breakfast, but the hotel has an excellent restaurant and there are multiple restaurants within walking distance.  I would encourage people to use the off site restaurants as well as the hotel as the hotel would not be able to accommodate all of us for breakfast at once.

We will open registration on Monday, June 10th at 3:00 in the hospitality room which will be in the Leeward Room.  Our first day of tours will be Tuesday and we will depart the hotel at 0900 for a one-hour windshield tour of Annapolis, with a guide on the bus to share all of the highlights that this beautiful city has to offer.  We will then board a boat for a one-hour harbor tour that will also allow us to see the US Naval Academy from the water, as well as the beautiful harbor.  After the boat tour, we will disembark and you will have free time to have lunch on your own on Main Street, which offers every type of food your little heart desires.  If you love seafood, you will not believe the choices that are available. Remember, Maryland crab cakes are the best in the world!!  After lunch, one half of the group will go to the Paca House with its amazing gardens.

The other half of the group will visit the Museum of Annapolis History. It offers a chronological overview of the history of Annapolis including an inspiring film, colorful exhibits, and an amazing collection of objects. After one hour at each, you will be picked up by a bus and then driven to tour the other museum. We will wrap up the day and be delivered back to the hotel about 1530 (3:30PM). The shipmates will head directly to the hospitality room for our annual business meeting upon our return to the hotel.

After the day of touring and your chance to catch up with everyone, you may want to use the hotel shuttle to take you back down to Main St. for a delicious dinner. The hotel is also located right next to what is called city center, which offers a wide variety of food options, and they are within walking distance. You may also just have dinner at the hotel.  Lots of options with lots of variety!

We will leave the hotel at 0900 on Wednesday, June 12 and head straight to the US Naval Academy, which I believe is the highlight of this reunion.  We will be dropped off at the visitor’s center (you will need a photo ID for admittance).     They have a short movie for us and then we will board the buses for a short drive to the museum. Here you will be able to see a photo of Hugh Purvis and his actual Medal of Honor.  There is so much to see in this museum, but you will have to pace yourselves. You will want to save a little time before lunch to walk to the Naval Academy Chapel and see this magnificent building.  The stained-glass windows each have a story behind them and in the floor below the sanctuary is the crypt of John Paul Jones, father of the US Navy! We will take a short walk to the Naval Academy Club where you will have a lunch buffet at noon, which is included with your tour cost.

We will gather back up at 1315 (1:15PM) to get back on the buses for a windshield tour of the Academy grounds.  We will leave there and take a short drive to the St. Anne’s Cedar Bluff Cemetery for a memorial service at the grave of Hugh Purvis.  At this point in time, it looks like we will have three generations of the Purvis family present with us for the day! After a short service, we will drive back to the hotel so you can rest up and prepare for our banquet. That will be held in the Coastal Ballroom.  Cocktails from 6-7 and dinner at 7.

All in all, I hope that this will entice many of you to attend this reunion. I do not know how many more reunions we will be having in, as our group continues to age.  I hope you will make every effort to attend this reunion, as we have never been to the Naval academy before for a reunion.

See you in June!!
