HPRA Reunion 2025
By GEORGE B. & Gene S.

We headed back to our homeport – Newport!!  I have the tours all lined up and most of the details ironed out for the reunion for June 17 – 20, 2025.  We will be staying at the Crowne Plaza, 801 Greenwich Avenue Warwick, RI 02886.  If you want to make your reservations, here is the link: USS Hugh Purvis  , or you may call them at: 401.732.6000 ext. 7823  Our rate is $139 per night and use the code: UHP.  It is the same hotel we have used in the past.  There is a free shuttle from the Providence airport to the hotel and breakfast is included!!!  What more could you ask for!!!

The hospitality room at 3:00 (1500) on Tuesday June 17th. We will head out on Wed. June 18th for a fun day of touring!

On Wednesday day, we will depart the hotel at 1000 and head off to the Navy Seabee Museum. At 11:30, off we go to the Quonset Officers Club for lunch (included).

At 1330 we will tour the Naval War College Museum. After that will be a narrated drive of
Newport, including Ocean Drive. At 1545, we will tour the Marble House (right) before heading back to the hotel at approximately 1730. Thcost for this day is $85.00 per person.

The second day we will start with us heading off to Battleship Cove at 1000.  We will visit the Viet Nam Veteran’s Wall, the Tin Can Sailors Library, and the USS Massachusetts.  We will have lunch on our own on the battleship. We will return to the hotel at approximately 1630.  The cost for this day is $65 per person.

You will notice that we return each day later than normal for our annual meeting.  In order to have our  annual meeting, we need to have it BEFORE we go out on tours for the day.  Thus our member meeting will be at 8:30AM in the hospitality room on Wednesday morning, June 18th. If we cannot cover all off the business necessary, we will reconvene on Thursday morning at 8:30 AM.  I know this is not how we have done it in the past, but traffic concerns and other logistics made me set up the tour times the way we have to do it.  Since breakfast is included, get down there early.

Our banquet will be held on Thursday, June 19th.  Cocktail hour will be from 1800-1900, and dinner will follow at 1900. We will offer the following meal choices: Sauteed Chicken Breast Saltimbocca with Prosciutto and Swiss Cheese and Marsala Mushroom Sauce,; or Baked New England Scrod, or Mushroom Ravioli.  The cost per meal is $55 per person.

I am looking forward to going back to Newport for one last visit. This is my last reunion that I will be planning.  I have done the last 15 and it is time for me to step down as VP - Reunion Planner. I have enjoyed doing it and hope that all of you have enjoyed them as well.  I have tried to always have a mix of things to see on the tours for both the shipmates and their guests.  I am ready for a break and I hope you can all understand that.
